Wonderful Twilight Wedding Photography At The Tall Ship Glenlee, Glasgow

The Tall Ship Glenlee is one of the most unique and unusual venues I’ve worked as a wedding photographer in Glasgow. I have been familiar with it, as a place to take my kids on a Sunday afternoon. Having watched a beautiful wedding film years ago, I knew they had weddings there too. I was so excited at the prospect of photographing Fiona and James’ Glasgow twilight wedding there.

Fiona and James were already married. They had tied the knot in a small, intimate ceremony and this was the party they planned for all their friends and family.

However it was more than just a Glasgow twilight wedding reception party that I would be photographing for Fiona and James. Fiona had been living in Vietnam for three months prior to the celebration, and had been rewarded with a long term contract. Fiona and James were now going to be leaving Glasgow so this was to be their farewell party too.

Glasgow Wedding Bridal Prep

Bridal prep started at James and Fiona’s home in Glasgow. James was getting ready at a friend’s house nearby. Fiona also had an incredible Flossy and Dossy dress. The lining was provided by Fiona, and Wendy from Flossy and Dossy designed the dress to match and suit the lining. It was a stunning bold emerald green, with gold touches and a wonderful slit at the front which meant the dress billowed open when she walked. She accessorised with a beautiful gold headband, some gold Carvela shoes and a cute box handbag with a sun and moon on either side, made from mother of pearl.

Twilight Wedding Ceremony on the Tall Ship

Fiona and James opted for a late afternoon ceremony. I was looking forward to photographing this twilight wedding ceremony on the Tall Ship Glenlee in Glasgow. September is a wonderful time for a twilight ceremony in Glasgow. While it wasn’t dark, it remained light until the end of the evening. The light was perfect for capturing family photos and wedding couple portraits at the Tall Ship Glenlee in Glasgow.

The Tall Ship Glenlee is a brilliant wedding venue in Glasgow. It’s very unusual, but also an iconic part of the riverside skyline along the river Clyde. I loved how it shimmered on the Clyde, and reflected in the glass of the Riverside Museum. Parking is easy, as guests can park at the museum. Alternatively there are regular bus routes, and a nearby underground station less than half a mile away.

I asked Fiona and James why they chose the Tall Ship for the wedding in Glasgow. They said “The Tall Ship is just a very cool place! There’s not one thing that made us book it, we just like the general vibe (and the fact that it is a bit different)”.

I asked Fiona and James about the vibe they wanted from their twilight wedding at the Tall Ship in Glasgow. They replied “We’re not really sure, not buttoned-up and stuffy, just happy to see everyone, eat some good food and dance to some good music!”

Fiona and James had their friend to conduct the ceremony, as the legalities had already been done. Fiona and James redid their vows to one another and had a handfasting.

After the ceremony, wedding guests enjoyed drinks on the upper deck of the Glenlee Tall Ship and access to wander around and explore this beautiful maritime wedding venue.

Tall Ship Glenlee Wedding Photos

The Tallship Glenlee in Glasgow is an amazing wedding venue as a photographer. I loved being able to create some beautiful wedding photos at this gorgeous Glasgow venue. The light was sublime – lovely, soft, and low. As the sun sets to the west, there are no tall buildings nearby to cast shadows. The Clyde setting is wonderful for golden hour portraits after a twilight wedding. The guests had departed down below deck in time for the meal. This gave me time to explore with Fiona and James. I loved working with them to create these beautiful Tall Ship wedding photographs.

Wedding Meal at Tall Ship Glenlee, Glasgow

Then it was onto the meal.

Fiona and James had used a cycling wheel, as James is a keen cyclist, as their table plan. Each table was named after a different Loch. They also decided to have bowls of Lego on the table so that guests could build their own table centrepieces.

Fiona and her friends and family had been busy baking an assortment of their favourite types of cake for guests to enjoy as a wedding dessert.

By the time the meal was over, it was time for dancing! Neither Fiona or James were keen on having a traditional first dance. Instead, they opted for an Orcadian Strip the Willow ceilidh dance. This is a popular way of getting all your friends and family onto the dance floor and enjoying a fun-filled dance session.
