A Wonderful Rustic Wedding at Windmill Barn, Dunfermline

UPDATE: Sadly the Windmill Barn in Dunfermline no longer operates as a wedding venue. If you’re looking for a gorgeous converted barn style venue, I have a list here of amazing Scottish barn wedding venues I’ve photographed before that I can heartily recommend.

I do enjoy a good Scottish rustic wedding in Dunfermline, and this was such a great start to my wedding photography season. I was so glad it was Peter and Vicky’s wedding. I’ve known Peter’s family for a while now – in fact I photographed at his brother’s wedding, where he met Vicky. So to photograph them all again was a bit special for me. It was also my first wedding back post-baby. As much as I love being a mum, I have to admit, I quite like adult company too. Turns out baby carrying is a great workout for carrying all my camera kit!

I also had with me Siobhan Stewart as my assistant and second shooter for the day. Siobhan was awesome to have along she took so many amazing candid photographs at this Dunfermline wedding, she did me proud!

Rustic Scottish Wedding Venue

When it comes to rustic Scottish wedding venues, Windmill Barn is incredibly beautiful. Converted stables, a courtyard, and a beautiful pond all give this venue it’s unique feel. I have to admit, Windmill Barn was the perfect setting for Peter and Vicky’s day. I was so thrilled when Vicky and Peter booked me to shoot this wedding, and it really is a gorgeous location to work with. It was also wonderful to have an outdoor ceremony on the patio in the courtyard. As far as rustic weddings in Scotland go, this was a definite hit with the options available.

Inspiration for rustic Scottish weddings

And if there’s one thing the sunshine brings, it’s happy smiling faces. It was that feeling that you could release and relax and unwind. You were a million miles from everyone and everything, and there was something about photographing and capturing that whole essence of the day that made it so special. It just felt light, and dreamy – everything you want and hope for at a wedding.

This wedding had so much that could offer lots of inpsiration for anyone planning a barn wedding in Scotland. Outdoor lawn games to keep people entertained; simple floral table decorations; and some options to jazz up your gin or prosecco and experiment with flavours. I especially loved the musicians on the platform over the water as well. There was also a decked terrace over the pond allowing for musicians to use it serenade the guests.
