Untraditional Wedding in Scotland
They did away with all the usual stuffy wedding traditions for their amazing Scottish ceremony. And honestly, it was a dream for me as a photographer. I love photographing weddings that are about the couple, and have a chilled out vibe. They booked Dungarthill House for their friends and family to stay with them, for a weekend break with a wedding in the middle.
Laura and Chris had their ceremony on the lawn. Their wedding was in September, and I’m a huge fan of September weddings. I love how the light works, especially in rural Perthshire. The scenic view from the house was idyllic. I loved how the light just danced through the tree tops, and how those hazy, warm autumnal sunbeams drew the longest shadows. It felt sheltered, so even if the wind had picked up, it would still be comfortable and warm.
Chris and Laura walked down the aisle together. This wedding wasn’t about old traditions and being given away; it was a wedding which was about sharing and mutual partnership. Their wedding ceremony was conducted by Laura’s old school friend, who is a wedding celebrant. Chris’ friend played guitar and sang through the ceremony. As part of their ceremony, the wedding party sang Bill Withers Lean on Me. Chris and Laura walked up the aisle to Everywhere by Fleetwood Mac.

I couldn’t resist using some 35mm film as well during their wedding ceremony at Dungarthill House. I think the mix of formats of digital and analogue film really added something special to the photos, giving a beautiful tactile feeling from the day.

Dungarthill House as a Wedding Venue
This wedding at Dungarthill House was the sort that my photography style feels made for. This beautiful Victorian private hire house just made you feel instantly at ease. I think it was the perfect venue for Chris and Laura. They planned a laid-back micro wedding filled with joy and this was the ideal setting. It was big enough to host all their friends and family, and as a private house they could treat it like a holiday home. Everyone was able to settle into the house, unwind and dress up, and let the day unfold as part of their experience. A weekend getaway with your loved ones and a wedding – what could be better?
What I loved about photographing this intimate wedding at Dungarthill House was the ability to explore the grounds and find some wonderful hidden spots for photos. The house acted as a backdrop during the ceremony too. I really loved photographing the dining room at Dungarthill House, which was laid out for their wedding meal. The hot air balloon was a wonderful centrepiece.
They hired local caterers Ballintaggart Farm to provide canapes and meals for their guests.

35mm Film Wedding Photos in Dunkeld
As always, I enjoyed mixing digital with 35mm film formats to create the final gallery for Laura and Chris. I think shooting on film alongside digital really worked well at this Dungarthill House wedding. The dappled light from the trees was the perfect setting for some of the photos on this beautiful early autumnal day.

Dungarthill House Wedding Photographer
Laura and Chris booked my Silda package for their wedding. This package starts shortly prior to the ceremony, and lasts until the start of your meal. It’s designed with weddings like this in mind. I photographed Chris and Laura’s wedding for around four hours, which is plenty for a small wedding in a private country house like this. My Silda package includes a mix of 35mm analogue film and digital wedding photography.
I would love to return to Dungarthill House in Dunkeld and photograph more beautiful and intimate weddings. If you’re planning a wedding at Dungarthill House and looking for a photographer I would love to hear from you. Get in touch today and we can chat about your plans and check my availability.
