A Beautiful boho-styled wedding in Argyll and Bute

Alpacas! Dancing! And year old doughnuts (yuck)! This was not quite what I had in mind when Jay and Rebecca asked me to be their wedding photographer at Carrick Castle Estate in Argyll and Bute. However, they were part of the magical elements that made this a phenomenal wedding.

Scenic Wedding Venue in Lochgilphead

I’ve photographed a few weddings at Carrick Castle Estate, so I know it well for all the best spots for photographs. I love how it attracts couples who want those epic photo opportunities. It’s a wonderful venue at Loch Goil, Argyll and Bute, for a laidback wedding. A lot of that comes from escaping the hubbub of the city. I notice guests switching off from the draw of their mobile phones when they attend a wedding at Carrick Castle Estate. People interact with one another and just embrace the pace of where they are, they live in the moment.

Outdoor Wedding Ceremony in Argyll and Bute

Jay and Rebecca’s wedding was no different in that regard. An outdoor wedding ceremony conducted by their good friend having tied the knot a year before during restrictions. The mountains and Loch Goil were the perfect backdrop for their wedding in Argyll and Bute. They also visited the resident alpacas for a photo opportunity. They brought their pup along as well to enjoy the day with them. And dancing! When a particular song – Pata Pata by Miriam Makeba – came on, everyone had to get up and dance. This was one of those wee friendship group traditions, and it was lovely to see it as a part of their wedding.

Perfect Wedding Location

Carrick Castle just worked so well for their wedding photographs. It felt like this Lochgilphead wedding venue fitted the spirit of the day. Their friends and family brought the atmosphere, and it slotted beautifully into the location.

In the evening, they toasted those they loved with a whisky around the firepit. Is there any better way to honour those you loved who are no longer there? It was such a deeply wonderful moment to capture as a wedding photographer. It’s all of these moments that humbles me in my work. You realise the significance, the importance, and what you’re recording. You’re seeing these moments through the eyes of someone with VIP access.
