35mm Film Photography from a Loch Lomond Elopement

Scotland, specifically the Loch Lomond National Park, is a popular destination for couples seeking a romantic elopement, and I loved capturing this wedding on 35mm film alongside digital photographs.

Shanna and Robin contacted me from their home in the Netherlands, as they were planning an elopement at Loch Lomond. They were still finalising the details about the exact location. They were travelling to Scotland with their three children, and asked if I, along with their wedding videographer Chas from CW Wedding Productions, to be their witnesses.

Pre-Elopement First Look

We met at their luxury accommodation, Duchray Castle. This was a beautiful location for them to get ready, with Lesley from Pamper and Polish giving Shanna her beautiful bridal look.

Shanna opted for a stunning red ombre tea-length wedding dress, while her daughters wore sweet pink tulle dresses to match. Robin had a lovely blue suit, matching their son. Their outfits looked stunning against the backdrop of Loch Lomond and worked well with the 35mm film I used to capture their elopement.

After Shanna was ready, we had a first look with Shanna and her daughters approaching Robin and his son, outside in the courtyard. Once the family were reconnected, it was time to go to a spot that Shanna and Robin had identified at Loch Lomond for their elopement.

Choosing Loch Lomond for a Destination Elopement

Loch Lomond is Scotland’s largest freshwater loch, and it’s a wonderful scenic location for a wedding set in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. The joy of an outdoor wedding in Scotland is that you can get married anywhere you want. The tricky part is choosing which location you want! Loch Lomond offers a variety of backdrops, from islands and beaches to mountains or picturesque villages. You can opt to get married near Glasgow, only a short drive away, or venture Northwards, towards the Scottish Highlands.

However, the weather can be quite changeable. There’s a saying in Scotland that you can have four seasons in one day. So the best advice is to dress and prepare accordingly. That might mean bringing both your brolly and your sunglasses in your bag.

Scottish Elopement Photography on 35mm Film

Although it rained steadily during their elopement, this didn’t dampen their spirits during this intimate ceremony at Loch Lomond, and added a beautiful atmosphere to their 35mm film photos.

I really love how 35mm film brought out the layers of cloud and soft detail of tones of the forest around Loch Lomond during their elopement.

This really was an opportunity to embrace the elements, which I think gave the photos a very romantic feel. Coupled with the 35mm film, these elopement photos from Loch Lomond added to the unique intimacy. It’s the combination of the colours and tones, the soft haze of the clouds that look almost mystical, and the passionate kisses in the rain, all on 35mm film, that make it look special.
