I was very excited when Hilary and Andy booked me for their Bachilton Barn wedding photography. Bachilton Barn is a wedding venue I have been keen to take photos at, it’s long been on my bucket list! Hilary had met me before at her cousin’s wedding, so she knew my work and it was such an honour that she wanted to book me for her own day.
Wedding Prep Accomodation
Andy and Hilary got ready at Bachilton Barn, which has onsite accommodation. Hilary opted to get ready in a nearby cottage which is situated on the road to the Perthshire Barn wedding venue. Andy meanwhile, enjoyed a night glamping in one of the yurts at Bachilton Barn. This meant that both had a very short distance to travel to the wedding ceremony.

There’s plenty of parking for wedding guests at Bachilton Barn too, and it’s all nicely tucked away from the venue. That allows for plenty of space outside for mingling guests to sit outside on the benches and enjoy the large pond and fountain, the festoon-lit gazebo and the spectacular scenery.

Rustic Wedding Ceremony Space
Inside, the barn, it has beautiful white washed stone walls and exposed wooden beams and a large oak floor. This makes it a wonderful space to really make your own – it’s a blank canvas venue for your own stamp on your wedding day.
Hilary and Andy wanted a really laidback feel to their day. Hilary walked down the aisle to Gabriel’s Oboe, with both her parents.
They had a Gillian Robertson as their wedding celebrant, and were framed at the window by a beautiful wedding arch way. I have to admit it was quite an emotional ceremony! I think when I’m working as a photographer I ended up getting a bit invested in the couple as much as they invest in my photography. You can’t help but get caught up in the moment, and just feel that lovely buzz you know they’re experiencing. And you can understand why family and friends get emotional too about it, when they’re seeing something special happening in front of them.
Afterwards, guests headed outside for canapes and drinks while Marc, my second photographer and I, busied ourselves with photos.

Bachilton Barn Wedding Photos
The thing I love about Bachilton Barn is that it’s fantastic for wedding photos. We utilised under the trees by the pond for group photos particularly with guests who were less mobile. I used the gazebo at Bachilton barn for wedding photos of the immediate bridal party. And then it was time to explore for some wonderful couple portraits. There’s quite a lot of opportunities for cute wedding photographs around Bachilton Barn. There are fields with spectacular views across the Perthshire hills; or a woodland for some intimate couple portraits. In the evening we used the stable area behind Bachilton Barn for wedding photos.

Scottish Barn With Natural Light
The speeches and wedding meal took place in Bachilton Barn. It’s a cracking space for a meal. The skylights in the ceiling allow lots of natural daylight inside, softened by light fabric. Fairy lights against the white washed walls were a perfect way of keeping it nice and light and neutral inside. The exposed natural wooden beams added a lovely rustic feel to the Barn. Hilary and Andy had beautiful and vibrant flowers from Erin Miller Florist on their table, along with grazing platters for guests to enjoy a range of food during the speeches.

Awesome Scottish Ceilidh Wedding Band
The evening dance was a mix of ceilidh and covers. Andy and Hilary’s first dance was Tom Odell – Grow Old With Me. I loved photographing the Orcadian strip the willow especially. It’s such a fun and exciting ceilidh dance to take photos of at a wedding in Scotland and Bachilton Barn allowed plenty of space for lots of people to join in. Sound Trax were a fantastic band – the dance floor was always busy.
