Fern and Caroline planned an incredible wedding, which was then rescheduled to Portencross Castle in West Kilbride. I was thrilled when they asked me to be their wedding photographer for this gorgeous ceremony in Portencross Castle. What made this wedding special was that Caroline’s dad, a Church of Scotland minister, was their celebrant. However this technically wasn’t the official ceremony. They had their official ceremony a few days prior, and the officiant was the wonderful Gerrie Douglas Scott, a humanist celebrant.
Fern and Caroline booked my Loppa wedding photography package for their Portencross celebrations.
Bridal Prep at Seamill House Hotel
I started the day at their hotel, where they were getting ready together. They were surrounded by their nearest and dearest – with both of their mums in attendance to their daughters while they got ready and dressed. Once they were both ready, their bridal party were invited in for a first look. And finally, both of their beloved dads came to see their gorgeous daughters. This was such a special start to the day. Fern and Caroline both looked phenomenal.

Portencross Castle wedding ceremony
From the hotel, we headed up to Portencross Castle for the wedding ceremony. There’s something wonderfully romantic about the thought of getting married in a castle in Scotland. Portencross Castle would definitely be one of my recommended castle wedding venues in Scotland to look at if that’s what you’re after. Although the space for the ceremony was fairly small, it was unique and beautiful, rustic and restored to a wonderful condition without losing any of it’s charm.

An Incredible Scottish Castle wedding venue
The weather was phenomenal on the day as well. So Fern and Caroline enjoyed drinks and had a confetti tunnel outside the castle. We used the castle as a backdrop as well for their group photos with their friends and family. And of course, their beloved rescue labrador who came with her own floral collar to see her mums tie the knot.
While their guests headed towards the Seamill House Hotel for the reception, we stayed on a little longer. Fern and Caroline danced on the rooftop together in the open sunshine, and by the banks of the Firth of Clyde. The glass in the windows refracted the light, and little rainbows fluttered all over the stonework. It felt rather appropriate. It was such a breathtaking location for their couple portraits.

Reception and the Party!
We drove the short distance back to the Seamill House Hotel. A private dining area was decorated and set up for their meal, including all the special touches that they incorporated to make it special. I loved the views from this hotel, and the contemporary bright decor and natural light.
