A Special Wee Edinburgh City Chambers Wedding

I love wee weddings, small weddings, micro weddings – call them what you will. They’re so much fun to photograph as a wedding photographer. I had a small wedding myself, so I understand the appeal of them and I love that they’ve become popular over recent years. This was an amazing wee wedding to work as a photographer at Edinburgh City Chambers Registry Office. the ceremony was followed by a meal for the guests at the Cannonball Restaurant near Edinburgh Castle on the Royal Mile.

This was a last minute booking for me. The forecast had initially been quite poor, however the weather picked up later in the week and the sun shone over Edinburgh.

Relaxed Wedding at Edinburgh City Chambers

I enjoy photographing wedding ceremonies at the City Chambers Registry Office in Edinburgh. The City Chambers has beautiful spaces available to couples who book it for their day. It’s the perfect location for couples who want a laid-back feel to their wedding. I love the cobbled courtyard outside, which makes for a lovely backdrop for photos. The City Chambers is right in the heart of the city making it ideal for people to reach by car, foot, train, tram, or taxi.

After the wedding ceremony was over, the guests headed outside onto the Royal Mile to throw biodegradable confetti for some more photographs. The Council ask that weddings don’t throw confetti in the courtyard, as they have so many wedding ceremonies each day. On the Mile, it’s more likely to blow away or be swept up by street cleaner vans afterwards.

Edinburgh City Chambers registry office is housed in a beautiful victorian era building. At the front of the entrance there is a grand arched arcade which sits on the Royal Mile – the famous road that leads from Edinburgh Castle to the Palace of Holyrood and the Scottish Parliament.

Then we headed back into the courtyard area for some mingling and group photos with guests. This is a great space for wedding photos in Edinburgh, as it’s sufficiently quiet and off the beaten track. That means that there’s no members of the public or tourists walking by or through the photos.

Wedding Photographs in Parliament Square, Edinburgh

We headed over towards Parliament Square, and took photographs around Parliament House. Again, it’s a lovely, quiet location right in the heart of the city for some intimate photographs. From there, it was time to go out and explore the centre of the city.

35mm Film Edinburgh Old Town Wedding Photos

One of my favourite things about weddings in the centre of Edinburgh, is the opportunities for photographs in a small area. As long as you’re prepared to walk, deal with cobbles and tourists, there’s so much to see in the Old Town.

We headed to the Vennel, for an iconic photo with the castle in the background. This staircase has become increasingly popular with tourists, but it’s well worth a visit. We utilised the balcony above Victoria Street, and used the colourful shop fronts of Victoria Street for wedding photographs in Edinburgh. As a wedding photographer, I love the contrast between the calm Victorian buildings around City Chambers, with the bright and bold colours of Victoria Street.

There are so many wonderful places to explore in Edinburgh for couple portraits around the Royal Mile. I also enjoyed using my 35mm camera as well and taking some photographs using film. I love how analogue film looks, and adds a documentary feel to these Edinburgh wedding photographs. As a wedding photographer at small weddings in Edinburgh, I really enjoy the documentary vibe, it feels so much more authentic. The photography brings out an added element to wandering around the streets of Edinburgh.

Wedding Reception at Cannonball Restaurant, Edinburgh

When we came to the end of this beautiful exploration of the Old Town, it was time to head off to the Cannonball restaurant. It’s situated at the foot of the entrance to Edinburgh castle, and inside it’s filled with atmosphere. I loved how shards of light shone in through the windows, and the cosy, intimate atmosphere it created inside.
