Eleven Beautiful Scottish Barn Wedding Venues You Must See

If you’re looking for a large wedding venue with a rustic feel, then Scotland has some incredible barn wedding venues. Some of these you can book as a dry hire venue, while others offer in-house catering. You can dress them up as much or as little as you want, to make your wedding unique to you. I love how relaxed Scottish barn weddings feel, the imperfections make it perfect. I thought I’d write about some of my favourite venues that I’ve photographed at across central Scotland.

You’ll find plenty of guides that will list every wedding venue in Scotland, but this list consists exclusively of venues that I can recommend from experience. I continue to update this list with venues I can heartily recommend. Every wedding I’ve photographed at these venues has been amazing, I’ve seen the guests enjoy themselves and couples have the best day of their lives. So my recommendations are more than just a “it looks pretty” response; these are recommendations where I know they’ll treat you well on your wedding day too which is what really matters.

If you’re planning on booking a Scottish barn for your wedding and looking for a photographer, please drop me a line! I get unashamedly excited when I get enquiries for barn weddings. I would love to hear from you.

  • Guests: 120
  • Recommended catering suppliers

Carrick Castle Estate is a beautiful barn venue in the West of Scotland. It offers a variety of options for weddings. You can book the lodge wedding for small and intimate ceremonies, or have a larger wedding using the barn. I’ve photographed several weddings there, and it’s a brilliant Scottish barn venue. You can have your wedding either in the barn or on the lawn overlooking the loch.

The lodge has lots of natural daylight making it ideal for hair and make-up stylists. It has seven bedrooms, a hot tub and a sauna – and there’s plenty of other local accommodation for other wedding guests.

There are lots of spots for photos on and off-site. Alternatively, why not have your photo taken with one of their resident alpacas? You can look at my blog post about my wedding photography at Carrick Castle Estate here.

Pratis Barn – Fife

  • In-House Award Winning Catering

Pratis Barn is a wedding barn venue in Fife. It has a variety of different spaces within the venue, making it ideal for all weather conditions. There are beautiful views across the Firth of Forth to East Lothian. I particularly love the windowed bar area. This can comfortably hold all your guests while they turn your room around for the evening reception.

Hire also includes the use of Pratis House, meaning you are only a short walk from your ceremony. Again, it is lovely and light for any hair or make up stylists tending to members of your wedding party.

There is a lot of space that you can use for photographs as well. You can use the barn space for some moody indoor photos, or head outside for some gorgeous golden hour portraits. This is a great Scottish barn wedding venue and I’d definitely recommend adding it to any shortlist.

Dalduff Farm – Ayrshire

All this means that everything can be held on-site without having to worry about additional travel. At the back of the farmhouse is a very pretty garden. This is ideal for photographers to get a group photo of all the guests from one of the windows.

There’s an outdoor courtyard that is quite sheltered and ideal for guests to mingle. The rustic feel of this venue is perfect for beautiful wedding photographs. Boreland Tay – Perthshire

Useful Info

  • Overnight Accommodation: 70 people
  • Guests: 200 People
  • Recommended catering suppliers

I fell in love with Boreland Tay, in Perthshire after working there at a wedding. It’s located on the North side of Loch Tay and it’s a fantastic barn wedding venue. In addition to the onsite accommodation, with a farmhouse for wedding prep, and onsite self catering lodges. Along one side of the barn, there are incredible large windows offering vistas across the valley. Meanwhile inside, there’s plenty of space your guests to chill out and mingle, making it ideal for more inclement Scottish weather.

Alternatively, if the weather is good, why not have your wedding ceremony outside? Since are plenty of opportunities for interesting barn inspired wedding photographs too which is a big hit for me. However, my favourite aspect of this venue is how much natural light it has inside the barn. Natural light is a big tick-in-the-box-yes for me. This makes makes everyone look more gorgeous than poor light or spotlights or even festoon lighting can deliver.

I love the large, bright barn for a meal and the perfect spot for a ceilidh! What I love about Bachilton Barn is that it has plenty of space indoors with breakout room areas. So if the weather isn’t perfect, then there’s plenty of spots indoors for guests to cosy down and hang out.

Guardswell Farm is a spectacular wedding barn in Inchture, overlooking the River Tay halfway between Dundee and Perth. It offers beautiful woodland on the estate and gorgeous countryside. All of this offers an absolute array of options for wedding photographs. Indoors, it has a split-level barn, and you can have your ceremony inside or outside. There is plenty of space to host your guests, without any of the shuffling around. In fact, it has 150 acres of land, so there’s definitely plenty of space for your wedding. Additionally to the very pretty farmhouse, their huts can accommodate 30 guests onsite.

In the evening, wedding guests can stay warm by an open wood-burning fire, (because frankly, who doesn’t like a good fire?). It’s an ideal venue to dress and decorate as you want and make it unique to you and your friends and family. I was also the photographer at this amazing Guardswell Farm Wedding on my blog which you can see covered in more detail.

Harelaw Farm – Ayrshire

Useful Info

Harelaw Farm is only a fifteen-minute drive from the centre of Glasgow, which makes it an ideal venue if you’ve got guests flying into Scotland or staying over in Glasgow in the evening. A gorgeous barn with onsite accommodation for your morning prep, with a beautiful farmhouse. And if it’s raining, you don’t even need to step outside as it’s connected to the barn by a series of corridors. This is a fabulous location for a large wedding – the hay barn (pictured) can take up to 250 guests. The Byre is ideal for smaller weddings and for your ceremony and holds up to 150 guests. Outside you’ve got an amazing Scottish landscape to enjoy. I loved the hospitality of the team at Harelaw Farm – as a supplier, I found them to be incredibly friendly and helpful and made me feel at home.
