As a wedding photographer in Scotland, I’ve fallen in love with 35mm analogue film photography. I have been using film photography more frequently at weddings, and enjoy sending a selection of images to my couples after their wedding. Analogue film has a unique timeless quality for me as a wedding photographer in Scotland. I mix it with digital images to create a unique gallery for a truly authentic vibe.

Mixing Digital and Film Photography at Weddings in Scotland
I use a Canon EOS 35mm camera and it’s compatible with the lenses I use for my digital camera. When I began experimenting with photography, I learnt through film. As I became more enamoured with my hobby, I switched to digital. Recently, I’ve fallen back in love with the feel of film. I love how it looks, the grain and the individual characteristics of the film. It has a unique temperament in different conditions.
Normally when I photograph a wedding, I predominately use two digital cameras. But when there is time to slow down at a wedding in Scotland, then that’s when I like to create photography with an analogue film camera.

Added Authenticity with 35mm Analogue Wedding Photography
One of the exciting things about using both digital and 35mm film is the variety it brings to your wedding album. Digital allows me to capture all the candid moments and fast-paced energy of your day, like guests laughing, little ones playing, and every detail in between. Meanwhile, 35mm film adds an intentional, timeless quality to certain scenes—especially those emotional, intimate moments that you’ll want to remember forever. By blending the two, I can create a collection that’s rich in both detail and depth, balancing the crisp clarity of digital with the nostalgic beauty of film. It creates an authentic modern nostalgia vibe to your wedding photography. This mix allows me to document every aspect of your wedding in a way that feels both natural and artful, giving you a beautifully varied album that truly captures the essence of your celebration. Whether it’s a close-up on your wedding rings or a wide shot of the Scottish hills behind you, each image has its own charm and purpose, creating a collection that’s uniquely yours.
I loved the versatility of digital, and still do. It works brilliantly in low light conditions. However, the feel of film is wonderful. I love how authentic film photography feels, and it really adds something to a wedding day here in Scotland. I have used my 35mm analogue film camera at weddings in Perthshire, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. It’s a little more unpredictable, but the results have their own charm.

Timeless Analogue Wedding Photography in Scotland
If you’re planning a wedding in Scotland and looking for a way to make your day feel timeless, 35mm film photography might be just what you’re after. In a world filled with digital perfection, film photography brings back the nostalgia and warmth that makes each photo feel truly authentic.
I still love working with digital photography. It has a speed that fits perfectly into the pace of a wedding. It allows me to work quickly, to see what I’m creating and to get it right. Digital photography is wonderfully versatile and I wouldn’t dream of working a wedding without it. However, combining with 35mm film photography adds a soulfulness to the final collection.
What Makes 35mm Film So Special?
Unlike digital photography, which can sometimes feel a bit too crisp, film has a natural grain that adds depth and a soft, dreamy quality to each image. With 35mm film, every shot feels handcrafted, which gives your wedding photos a personal, almost cinematic look. Film photography captures light in a unique way, which means you’ll get those subtle tones and textures that make each frame feel alive and memorable.

The Art of the Moment
One of the reasons I choose film photography is for its ability to capture honest, candid moments. Through film photography, there’s less emphasis on perfection and more focus on genuine emotions – the laughs, the glances, the quiet moments. This style aligns beautifully with those looking for a more relaxed, natural approach to wedding photography in Scotland. Sometimes the misses are as wonderful as the hits. This is a type of photography that is more about a vibe than perfection. It’s the imperfections that make analogue film photography special at weddings in Scotland.

35mm Film Wedding Photography in Scotland
Scotland’s breathtaking landscapes are an ideal backdrop for 35mm film photography. Whether it’s the cosmopolitan streets of Edinburgh or the serene countryside in rural Perthshire, film photography brings out the beauty in Scotland’s scenery. Each image feels like it could have been taken decades ago, yet it holds the memory of your special day, making it all the more timeless.

Why Film Photography Might Be Right for Your Wedding in Scotland
Choosing film for your wedding isn’t just about the look; it’s about the experience. There’s something magical about the slower, intentional pace of film photography that allows you to truly be in the moment. It’s a gentle reminder to embrace imperfection and let your love story unfold naturally. This is exactly what makes each photo so special.
