Beautiful Wedding Venues in the Scottish Countryside

Are you looking for a wedding venue that’s a little off the beaten track? Do you envisage having your Scottish wedding at a venue that feels like you’re in your own little bubble? If you’re looking for a Scottish wedding venue in the countryside, these are some of my favourite locations where I have photographed weddings. They are the perfect Scottish wedding venue escapes.

GGs Yard, Dumfries and Galloway

Located on Scotland’s southern coast, this is a wonderful wedding venue. It’s ideal for couples planning a day in a rural Scottish countryside location. A stunning venue, it has a barn that feels luxurious inside and plenty of onsite accommodation. It’s also close to the beach as well if you want some lovely evening photographs on a summer night. It’s a very spacious site, with a lovely patio outside, lots of windows as well for natural light. There’s also a dedicated space for your ceremony. As venues go, it’s perfectly thought out with it’s layout. GG’s Yard offers lots of space to move around, and no need to turn around rooms so it all happens seamlessly. It’s also perfect for accessibility. I love that it has a prep room as well. This means you can rock up to your wedding without worrying about organising wedding cars to arrive on time. GG’s Yard can host up to 200 day guests, making it perfect for big weddings.

Loch Lomond Arms Hotel, Argyll and Bute

While close to Glasgow, it’s a beautiful venue to consider for your wedding venue in a Scottish countryside location. On the outskirts of the village of Luss on the shores of Loch Lomond, it’s roughly 45 minutes from Glasgow. Again, plenty of onsite accommodation so you won’t be worrying about driving to the venue on time. The wedding ceremony takes place at a bespoke building at the back of the hotel. There is also a separate space for dancing and the meal. It has enough Scottish elements while avoiding Chocolate box twee. This venue should be on your visit list.

Loch Tay Highland Lodges, Perthshire

A little more work involved with this venue, but it’s perfect if you want somewhere that is a bit more unusual. You can book this campsite and then DIY with a tipi as this couple did on my blog post. It has plenty of onsite accommodation so it’s ideal if you and your guests fancy camping or glamping. If you fancy the idea of creating a wedding from absolute scratch and like the idea of a challenge, this is probably going to be up your street.

Kinlochard Village Hall, Stirling

You want a DIY location, but… you quite like the idea of a venue that already exists? This is a great venue for a rural, countryside Scottish wedding. A village hall that you can decorate as you want, bring in your own suppliers and caterers, and have a wonderful wedding. This is also a great option for lower budget Scottish countryside weddings. You just need to be a bit more time rich if you want to decorate it. It’s a great blank canvas venue, and perfect for a chilled out wedding in the Scottish countryside. A stone’s throw from Aberfoyle, it’s the perfect setting for a countryside wedding. Here’s a blog post I wrote about photographing a wedding at Kinlochard Village Hall.

Crear Weddings, Argyll and Bute

Do you dream of white sandy beaches, dramatic mountains, and a cosy barn, in a hidden away remote location? Then Crear Weddings might be what you’re looking for. If you really want to escape, then Crear is the venue for you. A large barn, with a modern glass room attached. It also has a cosy farmhouse and a suite for getting ready. They offer packages from 2 to 100 people, and you can opt from their package menu and have your entire wedding crafted for you. It’s a lovely, spacious location with stunning views to wow your friends and family.

Guardswell Farm, Perthshire

Does the idea of being surrounded by farmland, and having glamping options available for accommodation appeal to you? Have a look at Guardswell Farm. This beautiful venue boasts several rooms and spaces, with a sheltered area outside if guests want to be outside when the weather is inclement. Nestled in the hills of the Perthshire countryside, this wonderful rural venue is perfect for a wedding off the beaten track. Add to this access to the farmhouse to get ready, it’s definitely one to consider if you want a countryside wedding in Scotland. This venue can host up to 150 guests through the day, and an extra 50 at night too.

The Free Company, Edinburgh

If you’re looking for an outdoor, countryside venue but good links to transport and a nearby city are important, then The Free Company in Balerno might be worth considering. It’s on the boundary of Edinburgh, close to the Pentland Hills. The benefit is that you’ve got nearby access to major rail, air and road points. And you’re only a stone’s throw from a nearby city making it handy for your guests to find accommodation. It offers in-house catering, and there’s a nearby BnB that can hold 14 people if you need somewhere handy to get ready. I love the covered courtyard – it offers shelter from the elements while offering guests somewhere outside to mingle and chat. The Free Company can host up to 120 guests for a meal (with an extra 10 for evening guests).
